Southern Boobook in Duffy also

I had hoped to be the first to report an actual Boobook sighting, rather than calls, but Jean has beaten me to it- both in time of sighting and time of getting the message on the chatline.  

I was at the Film and Sound Archive this afternoon, looking for the Pied Butcherbird - which hasn't been reported for a while.  My hopes raised when about 20 Noisy Miners went completely feral.  Of course this was happening with much foliage preventing me from seeing their target.  Moving round to the main car park revealed the cause of angst to be a Boobook high in a eucalypt.  4 Australian Ravens then joined the ruckus.

I had previously checked out Hume Wetlands (nice, butno swifts); Kellys (not many birds); Fyshwick Poo Pits through the fence (when are we going to be allowed back in there?); and not seen anything exciting so Powl's cousin was a nice bird-of-the-day.

This morning 10am this bird was disturbed by my presence in the back garden.  It flew to denser foliage a metre away then after a short while flew over my head into one of the trees where I left it alone.  It appeared to be gone when I returned to that section of the garden.

 

Also 1 Yellow-faced Honeyeater in the garden, and suspicion of a group of about 10 flying over at 9am.  I did’t have a good enough look at them to be sure of the group as they had passed over when I saw them – so no calls were heard of this lot.
