Out of area - Mallacoota

Over the last few days at Mallacoota we had several good sightings.  One was at the local water treatment works where a peregrine took a black duck!  A plumed whistling duck was also seen there.  We had an excellent sighting of a grey goshawk only metres from where we were staying (pic attached).  Other birds included azure kingfishers flitting along the inlet's edge, and an evening cruise on the 1910 vintage MV Loch Ard included a pair of sea eagles feeding, and waders including curlews and godwits (though wader numbers were terribly poor, consistent with reports released by Birdlife Aust about land reclamation in Asia taking a huge toll on migratory birds). Mammals and reptiles ranged from koalas and grey-headed flying foxes to a lace monitor, dragons and skinks.
