The same story was on TV news this morning. On face value a good and relevant piece of research. Just in early stages and the report explores possibilities.
Bats show immunity to various viruses that most animals don’t and that is worth exploring. I don’t see anything surprising or stupid in this story. It suggests potential values from the research that go beyond current knowledge but that is neither surprising
or stupid for new discoveries. Whether bats in Victoria carry Ebola is implied, it is not stated (I think that was an out
of context diversion), is peripheral to the story.
