The local community environmental group at Rankins Springs (central NSW), with the help of some other interested birders, have arranged a 'Glossy Black- Cockatoo' survey weekend from Fri 19 to Sun 21 Feb. They are looking for some extra assistance from birders to help with these surveys. The idea is to head out to local dams before dusk & count the Glossys as they come in to drink. Transport to the dams with a couple of the locals (& return of course) would be provided on the Fri & Sat evening, as well as dinners at the community hall in Rankins Springs. Days could be spent birding around the local area at your leisure. Accommodation is available either at the Rankins Springs caravan park (camping/own van etc) or the local motel. Rankins Springs has a 'Birds of the Bush Festival' each October & the locals are very welcoming & encouraging of visits by birders. It promises to be a very enjoyable weekend. If you are interested, or would like further information about this event, please contact Warren Chad (Chaddy) from Condobolin. His mob is 0417 453 814 and his em is m("westserv.net.au","chaddy");"> Please feel free to share this post to anyone / any group whom you think may be interested. Many thanks. Frenchy.
