I am sure that a bit of discretion on the matters you raise would be taken for granted. Enlarging the place would be one technique for hiding senstive nesting data, for example.

On your final point, all digital images normally have metadata embedded in the file including the date on which it was taken. Quite a few cameras now also incorporate GPS and you could add that to the metadata as well, should you so desire.

Of course it relates to the word “should”. Giving those details also conflicts a little with the wish to not give actual details of maybe sensitive species nesting sites..........

Sometimes a person may not know the date and place that they were taken, for example I would not have that detail for most of my old photos of birds. (Mostly my bird photos are from the 1970s.)

Greetings. From time to time I post to the list the set of rules or protocols under which the list operates, as a reminder. Please see below.

All seems to be going well with the list, many thanks to everyone for your courtesy towards other subscribers, and for the mutual support provided via the list.

Reflecting the fact that much of the list's content is photographs, and that many have long-term value and copyright in them is owned by the photographer, it has been suggested that we add another list rule (perhaps confirming a customary practice may be a better way of putting it): all photographs posted to the list should include a clear statement as to the date and place that they were taken, and the name of the photographer.

What do you think about this suggested addition to the list rules?

Best wishes for good birding in 2016.
