A ranger at Tidbinbilla told me he’d seen a cocky taken in flight by a wedgie. I’ve seen a wedgetail chase a flock of cockies at Tidbinbilla and on another occasion saw one land in a tree with a still-alive cocky. That is the one I photographed.

At McQuoids Hill this morning, two eagles were after the airborne flock of sulphur-crested cockatoos. One almost snared one of the stragglers in the flock of cockies, but missed out. The other, after a couple of unsuccessful attempts, managed to grab a cockatoo from above and carried it some distance before disappearing below the tree canopy over on the adjacent farmland. I've not seen a wedge-tail take a bird on the wing before, although John Bundock managed a photo of one in a tree with dead cocky at Tidbinbilla some time ago.
