Yes, Sulphur Cresteds are very common in Canberra, but views of adults feeding young in a street-tree hollow are rather special. As can be seen by the size of the hollow, the tree is of pre national capital vintage. In fact it can be
seen prominently in the streetscape in Tim Yowie's recent 'Where in Canberra' quizz aerial photo of Ainslie taken in 1953. The adult birds often screech at 2am when a possum gets too close, to the chagrin of woken nearby residents...But all's well that ends
well.
