For those with an interest in the Round Hill vicinity, it has the tail
end of a mass eremophila flowering with many Black Honeyeaters in
attendance. The usual suspects were skulking with persistence and
determination in the heathy and mallee areas. Masked and White--browed
Woodswallows had dy out - presumably following the heavy rains in the
district a couple of months ago.
There were many dy of many different species, including a pair of
Red-capped Robins feeding a Horsefield's Bronze-Cuckoo.
The male Splendid, White-winged and Variegated Wrens in breeding plumage
were simply gorgeous.
The bowl of water I put out to attract birds scored a squillion ants,
and some feral swine.
The non-avian highlight was an 1845 East India Company Straits
Settlements one cent coin, featuring a rather sleek Queen Victoria. How
it found its way to a kangaroo pad is an enigma. Perhaps an errant
macropod pouched it?
