Stuart is certainly right. It is a right primary of a Tawny Frogmouth. I wouldn’t go so far as knowing number 5 or picking the sex! But won’t disagree. Certainly not from a powerful owl. I wonder why that question is often asked..... Wishful thinking? With the one last week that was collected from the known PO roost site, that is a different matter.  

 

One thing to add is that owl and frogmouth feathers share the feature of having a soft fluffy feel.

Hi Marie,

 

The feather looks like it is from a Tawny Frogmouth, probably the fifth primary on the right wing of a male.

 

The size, colouring and habitat all favour a frogmouth.
