Needing to go into Bungendore today I checked the dams on the edge of the village.  3 Whistle dux at Burrows Lane and another 3 at Trucking Yard Lane.  Also 47 Shelduck around the paddock at Trucking Yard Lane and another 17 at Bungendore Meadow.

I checked the Banded Lapwing site on the way home and the cupboard was bare.  Actually that is a poor metaphor since the absence of Lapwing observations may be because the grass is not bare, but quite high, and:
  1. they do not like long grass (allows predators to get too close?); or
  2. they like long grass because they can hide in it!
