Last week I made my annual visit to Werribee.  All the usuals including hundreds of avocets.  Relatively few waders in the ponds due to high water levels. Each year there are more and more cruising watchers mainly of the snapping variety, one telling me he was photographing ‘Double-banded Lapwings’.  In the upper panel a mixed flock of waders takes flight along the shore.  In the lower, the near bank is occupied by massed Whiskered Terns and smaller waders, mainly Curlew Sandpipers, while avocets doze on the farther bank.
