Quite a racket early this morning coming from the front garden and nearby street eucs: 2 male koels squabbling in the vicinity of a female with agitated bowerbirds and wattlebirds providing the background. All the usual koel noises: kooel,
wirra, kek, kluk, and chuckle. The female sat for some time within a few metres of a recently used RWB nest, with the RWB young being fed in a fruiting C Pistachio. The males did quite a bit of the breeding behaviour known as SITTING WATCHFULLY including
at one stage in a leafy elm in the garden of Bernard Collaery’s much-photographed ‘office’.
