Fact is the ACT is only an administrative unit for mysterious purposes of Humans.  It is not an 'ecological unit' as far as most wildlife is concerned but just a part of greater southeastern Australia.  Brown Treecreepers don't seem to do well close to suburbia, that's what happens with some species when you build a big city on/close to their habitat. The reverse is true of others.  From my experience however, they are still widely distributed in our general region, esp. to our west.  Maintenance of general habitat quality on a landscape scale in the mostly farming districts from here to South Australia and also northwards, where this species is widespread is what is going to make the difference.

Thanks for all these responses, I think my impression that the Brown Treecreeper is in serious trouble in the ACT is justified. However, I had overlooked the fact that some populations are present in Namadgi.

Stuart Harris and I blitzed a Brown Treecreeper in the Naas Valley, Namadgi NP, yesterday - a large area of continuous apple box woodland on public land that’s in reasonable condition.

I have been looking at the Brown Treecreepers at Kama for the last 10 years- even had them banded.  The last one, a male has not been seen for about three months now.

I’m getting despondent about the status of Brown treecreepers in the ACT.

In the COG Atlas (published 1992) it notes the populations of Brown Treecreepers in Campbell Park and Mulligan’s Flat.

I arrived in the ACT 1994 and by then, or shortly afterwards, both these populations had vanished (as had the Hooded Robins in Campbell Park, also noted by the Atlas.)

I used to observe Brown Treecreepers in the New Line Quarry Paddock, but I have not seen them since 2010. When Kama Nature Reserve was opened I observed the Brown Treecreepers there in  around 2012, but have not seem them since then.

They were always present in Hall TSR, but they seemed to have disappeared from there too (since 2013).

Are there in fact any Brown Treecreepers in the ACT in nature reserves (ie not on private property)?
