Hi Philip,
ebird has several apps for your phone or tablet, which you can use to enter the data in the field (I believe it works offline) which is what I am assuming David is referring to. Personally,
I write obs on paper (a blank A4 sheet folded into 8ths using a few letter codes for species, as I find the COG sheet too bulky), and enter it into ebird on the computer when I get home.
