Sue Lashko and myself hosted a small group of visiting birdos from the
Southern Highlands at Campbell Park today.
There was lots of Box Woodland activity in the usual hotspots. Rufous
Songlarks have added themselves to the migrants list. White-winged
Triller, White-winged Chough and Leaden Flycatcher were nb. Several
nests I had observed in construction earlier on (including
White-throated Gerygone and Common Bronzewhing) are now deserted. Willy
Wagtail (on). Lots of dy. Some evidence that Yellow-rumped Thornbill are
aiming for a second brood. The male White-winged Triller was standing
above the female with wings outspread as she constructed her nest. Owlet
Nightjars nowhere to be seen. On the lacunae front, we recorded neither
White-throated Treecreeper nor Grey Shrike-thrush. Although Dollarbirds
bred there last year, we sighted none today.
Despite spotty rain, we had a good time.
The floral highlight was carpets of Bulbine lillies.
The hospitality is likely to be reciprocated with a COG trip to the
Southern Highlands under discussion.
regards
Con
