Hi Denise,

This is a common practice for Black-fronted Dotterels. I have seen quite a few nests in similar situations. Surprisingly the majority of the nests have successfully hatched young but what happens to the chicks after they are up and running I am not sure.

This is my day ..This I think it is a Black fronted Dotterel ( because I only had the phone !!)  with a nest in the most awkward spot and very vulnerable. Cars drive within half a meter of this blue gravel nest. I have made the senior people in the complex aware of it and suggested it would be good if they could provide an unobtrusive barrier they seemed keen, I will check again in the morning. But there is no water within Cooee.
