The two Terriers with John Bundock escorted our visiting, Polish born PHD
student Gabriella Hadjuk on a fine Wednesday afternoon to these two locations.
The small islands near the Carillion have been recently cleared of undergrowth
rendering them less bird friendly. The willows in tiny leaf and clear blues
skies made it a very pleasant site and the profusion of courting red rumped
parrots indicative of early breeding was a welcome sight.
John, I notice, has already posted photos of nesting Stella's and an olive
backed oriole. Of further interest, however, was courtship behaviour of at
least 12 dusky wood swallows near the horse-gate. One new nest was located,
cunningly contrived behind protruding tree trunk bark, little more than head
high.
