Dear COG members
The following report on the last two COG committee meetings was not included in Sept Gang-gang (due to unfathomable technical hiccups):
Sue Lashko (ed)
July 2015 meeting
The Committee decided to:
Endorse a submission outlining COG’s concerns about
potential impacts on bird habitat, particularly for
the Little Eagle, in relation to the West Belconnen
urban development DV 351/DA 85.
Provide to the first 20 new members to attend a
members meeting a copy of the 2006 edition of the
Pocket Guide to the Birds of Canberra.
Support a grant application to the ACT Government
for the further development of the Canberra Nature
Map, and to participate in the Canberra Nature Map
and provide a list of birds for the last 10 years
covering Canberra’s suburbs and Nature Parks, if the
grant application is successful.
Support the Canberra Indian Myna Action Group’s Myna
nest removal project: Mulligan’s Flat and
Goorooyaroo. Chris Davey will be COG’s
representative on the committee managing this
project
Support the production of a brochure on the birds
found at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands and assist with
the costs of its initial print run.
The AGM will this year be held on 11 November 2015.
August 2015 meeting.
The COG Committee is currently having a detailed
examination of all the databases managed by COG. The
world of databases is rapidly evolving and COG must keep
up with, and hopefully anticipate, where data management
is heading.
The COG data collection is a valuable resource and must
be managed professionally. It must also be easy for
members to use for data input and for data analysis.
The Committee will keep members advised on progress on
these issues.
The Committee continues to manage the rationalisation of
the material held by COG in various storage facilities.
The Committee proposes to present a draft revised
Constitution to the AGM in November to bring it in line
with current ACT Government legislation, and will be
considering a draft at its September meeting.
Two members were endorsed as COG representatives for the
BIGnet meeting in September in NSW.
If you would like further details on these matters please
speak to a committee member or email the committee at
The cogoffice email can
always be used if you wish to contact a committee member
or raise any issues concerning COG.
Alan Thomas
Secretary
