I think I saw choughs mating a week ago (July 4) in Campbell Park.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Choughs building nest?

My local tribe of choughs (in lower Garran) appear to have started nest building. This rain is facilitating their efforts. They have been busy burrowing in the soft wet earth in my garden and I have seen several running about with large clumps of mud in their beaks.  A couple have even strolled past with their heads and chests caked in mud.  I can’t quite make out where they are taking the material but a couple of years ago they built high up in a eucalypus and successfully produced a youngster.  Good luck choughs!
