As a long time contributor to this chatline, Philip is able to point to the psychology of the flurry as a probable explanation. Often the sequence will go -
C1: I saw an X this morning
C2: I saw one last Tuesday
C3: That's nothing. I saw 3 last week
C4: That's a lot of Xs. [Is that unusual for this time of year?] [Has this got anything to do with climate change?]

I have often wondered about the flurry of reporting of WTE on windy days.
Yesterday - Thursday - there were two gliding in the air currents over Percival Hill and reported several times from other high points in the same day. I cannot think of any survival advantage in riding the currents on windy days and
can only conclude that they enjoy it.
