Wedge-tailed eagle,

I think a flurry of reporting of WTE (like many other things) is generated
by responses to messages (me-too-isms). I often see WTE and happen to reply
to another person's message when I otherwise wouldn't. Of course wind or not
is important to them and they might enjoy it, who knows, but they fly in
calm weather too. One thing is sure that there is little benefit in them not
flying in windy weather as they still need to get around and look for food.
Windy weather might make travelling easier.

I have often wondered about the flurry of reporting of WTE on windy days.
Yesterday - Thursday - there were two gliding in the air currents over
Percival Hill and reported several times from other high points in the
same day. I cannot think of any survival advantage in riding the currents
on windy days and can only conclude that they enjoy it.
