A few years ago I was pulling some potatoes late in the afternoon when I was shouted at by half a dozen magpies on the fence , when I lifted my head to tell  them to nick off I noticed a two metre brown snake sliding out of the patch , I was very thankful for that warning and now I take note whenever I hear this alarm call.
