Many thanks Mark.  You view sounds quite believable as there are carers out this way.  The neighbour reported the bird was very friendly and sat on their leg  but had moved on by the time they came back from voting.

Martin,

This looks like, and from the way it is behaving, like a rehabilitated bird. It is certainly NOT a bird that has been officially banded as it is not wearing a metal ABBBS band. The ABBBS also handles the issuing of colour band combinations so whoever has put the colour band on technically has done so illegally. I would suggest that this bird has been banded by the WIRES mob in NSW. To the best of my knowledge (as the Regional Organiser for the banding scheme) there is no-one in the ACT or local NSW area who is officially working on magpies.

Cheers,

Mark

A neighbour has sent me the following message.  Does anyone know of someone in the Carwoola area who is studying Magpies and may have colour banded this chap?  I'd have expected several colours to be applied rather than just a yellow one.

Hi Martin,

Just this minute we've interactive with and taken photos of a young magpie that is tagged.

Do you know why it would be tagged and would it belong to someone?

My son just patted it now after feeding it. It is following us around.
