I went for a walk at Rendezvous Creek in Namadgi National Park on Friday morning. There wasn't a huge amount of birdlife but I did see a lot of reptiles. The highlights were a yellow-bellied black snake (aka highland copperhead) and a bizarre little red snake around 30-40cm in length (photos attached). I was hoping that someone might know what the red snake is, as it doesn't seem to fit any of the common ACT species. My thoughts are that it is either a baby which is yet to attain normal colouring or it's actually a legless lizard. Unfortunately the head is obscured. A close look suggests that the head might be elongated like a legless lizard's but that could just be a trick of the shadows. Regards, Maurits Zwankhuizen
