In addition to the famous Turner Powerful Owl I have today received a very credible report of a Powerful Owl seen flying on the Hoskinstown plain about mid-day (yes, daylight) last Sunday. The description was :" a large dark grey bird flying with slow powerful wingbeats. Seen from a car driving along Briars-Sharrow Rd (Hoskinstown Plain) . Initial thoughts were of a wedge-tail from size but when got closer the passenger realised it was an Owl. When returned to residence looked up field guide and am certain it was a Powerful Owl." Barbara: Is the Rarities Panel interested in this or will it be rejected as a third party sighting with insufficient detail?? Martin Butterfield |
