Very interesting Wayne, possibly post breeding dispersal as the usual time to leave is in the first half of April.

As in past years there have been very few Noisy Friarbirds in my local patch of NW Chapman/Cooleman Ridge and the S half of Narrabundah Hill this summer, probably just a single bird which seems to move around a bit, and no hint of any breeding activity.  Certainly not a promising spot for this species as an alternative Koel host!

Yesterday morning in west Stromlo small flocks of Noisy Friar Birds were in evidence.  given that I have not seen any at all in this area the past few weeks I wondered whether they were gathering before moving away.

Also  - what I took to be a young Wedge Tail, perched in a large dead tree.  Could this be a young one from the pair which I understand breed each year on the Murrumbidgee upstream of Uriarra Crossing?
