As a little child I learned from my dear mother to call the koel the rainbird long before I heard the name koel. But I suspect that trait is the reason for the spate of reporting of late. Ther is a pair around here (Percival Hill/Ginninderra Creek) but I only heard them spasmodically until a few days ago and now they call very frequently and often for an extended period.
