Hi all,

I should check where I am sending things more closely. This was meant to go to the chatline as well as Geoffrey.

When Terry first showed me the “mystery” bird I suggested to him that it was either a female or more likely, a juvenile, Maned (Australian Wood) Duck. I haven’t changed my mind in the time to when the photo was put on the chat line.

It looks a bit like some kind of mallard hybrid but I haven't noticed one on any recent visit.  On the other hand there are a few juvenile wood duck around.  These have eyebrows and unlike the adults are quite bland in front  -  something a bit older than the below.  The particular colour shown doesn't really match anything I can think of

Terry has shown me this photograph and I have told him what I think it is. I will be interested in other people's opinions.

Cheers,

Mark

indeed a poor photo taken from a wetlands birdhide across  Kellys to the far bank, about 200 metres with basic digital camera. unducklike in solitary position in long grass, please tell me if I have found something more unusual
