Hi All, I saw this bird in an area with the juvenile Spotted Crakes and at first glimpse thought it was one of them. However, it behaved differently...much more shy and secretive and it was also larger, longer bill, darker colouring and pattern somewhat different. It was also in the vicinity of where I've seen a Buff-Banded Rail. I have come up with an Id which is probably way off base, so I'll keep it to myself for the moment, but it looks like a juvenile bird to me. The third photo ... the distant shot, has a juvenile Spotted Crake in the background with the mystery bird in the foreground. Photos aren't great as the bird was in a hurry to hide again. It ran ... didn't fly .. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers Julie -- Julie Clark
