As is oftenthe case the Frogmouth family have been off on tour of territory.  Going out to pick strawberries a few minutes ago I was alerted to their return by a churring call made by one of the chicks.  They were on a roost which the female adopted while the nest was active this year - neither she nor the male had been spotted using this roost in previous years.

The most unusual thing  - at least in my experience - was that the chicks had split up with one accompanying each parent (see attached image).  It isn't unusual to find Mum a short distance (or sometimes quite a long distance) from the others but in previous years whenever I have found the male at this time of yer he has had both chicks with him.
