At 1330 today I drove past Trucking Yard Lane and there were at least 20 Plumed Whistling Ducks (PWD). Surprisingly the majority of them were swimming. According to HANZAB they generally only swim when escaping predators. They were certainly skittish as when I got out of the car to try for a wider photo the whole lot of ducks took off and headed for the Bungendore Meadow Dam. As we drove past there 2 minutes later there were 20 visible at that dam, and possible more below the lip of the dam. Also about 50 Shelduck, which is a low haul for that site in recent days.
