Lots of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters at Green Cape migrating south this morning.
Quite a daunting prospect crossing a vast expanse of open ocean to reach the next landfall. I  watched them for half an hour and I’m not sure any of the flocks persisted with the venture. Some turned back after less than a hundred metres, some went considerably further before turning back. After returning to the cape some flocks headed back westward to follow the coastline. A much longer route but no doubt one which felt a lot safer to them.

My guess is they found themselves at a dead end and most (if not all) backtracked and followed the southern edge of Green Cape.

Regards,
Leo.
