I am in Bournda National Park, just south of Tathra this weekend. Today I saw a
bird more or less front on, with a light coloured chest, but with heavyish
striations, and a fully cocked tail like I wren. The striations were much
heavier than a striated thornbill (STB), and besides the bird was a bit too
bulky for a STB. I instantly thought of a heathwren, but both eBird or birddata
have only rare sighting if any in this area. Also I didn't see it's rump, so
can't say if it had a Rufus rump or not. The only other bird I can think of
would be a speckled warbler but I have never seen one with a fully cocked tail
like a wren. Can they do that? Any other ideas?
John
