Woodland bird surveys at Gooroo North were carried out on a fine crisp morning on 3 Oct. Many of the spring migrants were in full song, especially Western and White-throated Gerygones, and Rufous Whistler. Mistletoebirds were prolific although most of the mistletoe fruit seemed unripe. Occasional flocks of Yellow-faced and White-naped Honeyeaters passed through, and several groups of Brown-headed and the occasional White-eared Honeyeater were recorded. Superb Parrots were recorded in the vicinity of three sites. A nice find was a Red-capped Robin and a Scarlet Robin. The resident Brown Goshawk was in residence. Only one Noisy Friarbird was heard, also Pallid and Shining Bronze-cuckoo, but no Leaden flycatcher, Sacred Kingfisher or White-winged Triller. A total of 49 species for the morning. The red-necked wallabies are doing quite well in this reserve with a group of six seen.
Cheers
