A couple of volunteers are needed for bird surveys near Tumbarumba in the next couple of months.
As part of a CSIRO project, some basic biological monitoring is being undertaken at the site in the forests near Tumbarumba. A couple of volunteers are needed to undertake bird surveys there twice a year. Each visit would involve two days of surveys. If the birders are from Canberra they would probably travel to Tumut (or Tumbarumba) the evening before the survey and then be on site in the morning. It should take around 2.5 hours to do one survey. Then another stay overnight, likely in Tumbarumba and a second survey in the morning. Funds are available to cover travel costs and (basic, but lovely!) accommodation.
Survey methods are likely to be much the same as standard Birdlife Australia surveys (to be confirmed). The terrain at the site is not too difficult. However there is no track, there is thick bush in parts of the core plot, but it's not particularly rocky. To carry out the survey volunteers need to be reasonably fit and able to walk off-track through bush. Volunteers need to be familiar with the birdlife of the area (similar to ACT mountain forest birds).
