Saw what we thought was a male Blue-billed duck in Gungahlin yesterday,
on the small triangular pond that's the other side of Horse Park Drive
from Yerrabi Pond and a couple of hundred metres south (the pond doesn't
appear to have a name, but on the ACTmapi web site it's shown as block 1
section 86). The duck was out in the middle of the pond about 25-30
metres away, and we were out cycling and didn't have binoculars, but the
duck had a dark blue bill with a paler tip, dark head, brown body, and
we could see the stiff tail when it dived. In the several minutes we
watched, it spent about as much time diving as it did on the surface of
the water.
Also quite a number of Clamorous Reed-Warblers being very vocal in the
reeds around the shore of the pond.
