It now appears that there may be a second Australasian Bittern AUSBIT), at the AIS wetlands.  I have received off line suggestions that an AUSBIT was seen in both locations very little time apart.  

As the AIS is more or less en route from Lyneham to McKellar Pond  I suggest we call in on the way by and spend a few minutes examining the tall moncotyledons in the water.  (Thus avoiding the reed/rush controversy.)

That is starting to make a longish day of it, so folk may wish to bring along some nutrients.

For a range of reasons I have concluded that it is better to submit records through eBird rather than the COG online system and have set up an account for the COG Wednesday Walks to facilitate this separately to my personal observations.
