Hi, On Saturday and Wednesday of this week, a koala has been seen crossing Pialligo Avenue between Canberra Airport and Sutton Road.
As there is no koala population in this area and the habitat does not appear ideal. The koala is most likely lost and could be having difficulties finding preferred feed trees. Other koalas that have been rescued out of habitat, have been sick and very underweight.
It is important that this koala is rescued and taken to West Queanbeyan Vet for assessment.
Please phone me if the koala is sighted. Koala rescues require special equipment and training. Wildcare has a number of people with this training.
I have been keeping both NPWS and ACT Parks updated in relation to this koala. Yesterday a search was conducted with the permission of the property owner.
