Not a silly question. We all have to learn and we all have much more to learn.
It is a female King Parrot. There’s one around here at the moment.
As to being young or not, Geoffrey Dabb or Philip Veerman may help you with that!
They know more than some of us about such finer points!

Hi Folks

As a newbie and after consulting considerable number of tomes and sources I am unsure of the following birds identity.

Photo Link: http://bit.ly/1ncqTvS

Is this a (possibly Juvenile) King Parrot? Or is it some kind of Rosella? Found foraging in a tree on Black Mountain Peninsula in late April 2014.

Silly question I know. But its one of the 50-odd (or not so odd) birds I've photographed since late last year that I haven't been sure of.
