Hi Sanda. At the other end of Wanniassa down near the shopping centre we've had large raucous flocks of rainbow lorikeets for about 6 - 8 weeks now. Flocks of about 15 -20 common on a daily basis (especially in the morning) around my local few houses, easily outnumbering all the other birds except the wattlebirds which are into the flowering ironbarks currently. Either the rosellas have retired out of the way a bit, or they've moved out because of the lorikeets - i'd say i'm seeing on average only a pair or 2 of easterns daily around our place at the moment. This year is definitely the 'year of the rainbow lorikeet' in my street!

The lorikeets are regulars here in small numbers, but in last few days there's been a big influx to the flowering eucalypts in the parkland area adjacent to Wanniassa Hills Primary School. Just counted 27 there, along with the usual suspects in the area - crimson and eastern rosellas, king parrots, galahs and sulphur crested cockies. The ever-present noisy miners were trying hard to chase them away, but not having much luck! It's always a popular area with parrots, having a number of big old eucs with some hollows (and someone from ANU has put up some nest boxes on one of the trees too), but first time I've seen such an invasion of the rainbow lorikeets.
