For more on ticks and  other interesting parasites for the traveller may I recommend, for those who still read books, a delightful little vol by Robert Desowitz “New Guinea Tapeworms & Jewish Grandmothers” ?

Thanks to Julian and others who have taken an open-minded approach to this contentious issue.

My colleagues on the Illawarra Coast are very well aware of Australian Lyme Disease and the Australian Association of Bush Regenerators (AABR) (whose Members are constantly exposed to the risks) have produced a PDF paper on the subject of protection from Ticks and Tick-borne diseases.

AABR has written a policy for it, and there is actually a medical/scientific book written about Australian Lyme several years ago, which you may be able to source through AABR too
