I have now read the description of courtship flight of Sea- Eagles in HANZAB and it is a very good match to that which I saw this morning.  A pity the talon grapple didn't lock but.

I passed by Jerra wetlands and the FSP this morning.  On Rusk Pond 6 (more like mudhole 6 at present ) there were at least 15 Black-fronted Dootterls and 7 red-kneed Dotterells.  Also about 12 Magpie-larks doing a creditable (at a distance and a very quick glance) job of imitating Black-winged Stilts.

Another good imitation was that of a domestic goose call.  It was of course two White Bellied Sea Eagles soaring overhead from the general direction of the hospice: one a glorious adult the other a sub-adult bird.  In my experience down the coast such calling is often associated with courting behaviour and at one point the adult bird did a barrel roll under the immature, extending its talons upwards in so doing.  So might this have been a breeding display?

On the matter of the hospice, as I drove past on the main drag (I am never sure what that road is called anywhere between Anzac Parade and Sutton Road) earlier in the morning 5 Gang-gangs flew across the road.
