A sunny morning after days of rain and grey skies. There were 40 species along the northern fence line. Not far from the style a feeding flock consisting of about 15 beautiful Spotted Pardalote, Yellow-faced Honeyeater moving through into tree cover, Golden Whistler, Brown Thornbill, Yellow-rumped and Buff-rumped Thornbill, Silvereye and Grey Fantail were persistent in feeding – I spent 45 minutes in this area. Scarlet Robin were tick ticking and males putting on an arial display or perhaps disputing ownership in a few areas along the track. Further along more Spotted Pardalote and Silvereye, Bowerbird, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo (heard up the hill) White-throated Gerygone (heard), Wedge-tailed Eagle, 1 Tawny Frogmouth, 1 Speckled Warbler, Rufous Whistler (m & f) and Grey Shrike Thrush.
On the way back one 1 metre Red-bellied Black Snake crossed the track in front of me – I spotted it just in time.
Former COG members I met on the track today, said that in the fog yesterday around 11am there were “hundreds and hundreds” of Yellow-faced Honeyeater moving across the track from the direction of Mount Stromlo.
