Dear COG & CIMAG Members,

The Canberra Indian Myna Action Group is working with ANU student Melissa D’Amico on a project to identify & map Common (Indian) Myna nest sites in the Canberra region.

In particular, CIMAG IS SEEKING INFORMATION ON THE LOCATION OF SITES WHERE YOU MAY HAVE OBSERVED INDIAN MYNAS NESTING SINCE LAST SPRING. Indian mynas nest in tree hollows, but also in artificial structures (such as roof cavities, nest boxes and occasionally other places).

Flocks of Indian mynas often cluster in OVERNIGHT ROOSTS in pencil pines or similar dense foliage trees. PLEASE NOTE THAT, AT PRESENT, WE ARE NOT LISTING THESE LOCATIONS AS PART OF THIS EXERCISE.

The information we are seeking is :

1. Type of nest site, tree (species if known) or artificial structure and enough detail for the hollow to be pin-pointed.

2. Street address & suburb, or other detail if in bush or parkland.

3. Grid reference would be helpful if you have it.

Melissa will also work with COG & CIMAG member, Daryl King, an expert in geo-coding.

Grateful for your feedback.

Cheers,

Bruce Lindenmayer.
