That's really interesting, Jude! We had a talk from Dr Amanda Ridley from the University of WA not too long ago, and she described the grieving of Australian magpies when one died. Such complex birds!

An interview with Marc Bekoff, Professor Emeritus of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, probably a BBC production, was broadcast today on News Radio. In it he was asked about animal emotions and, as part of his answer, he described a magpie funeral ritual he observed. I have found a similar story on Youtube - link attached.

Regards,
Jude.
