Having visited Captain Cook's (supposed) original landing point at Kurnell, beneath a large Banksia integrifolia tree, I can tell you that the same New Holland Honeyeater which greeted Cook, Banks, Solander et al, is still living there, and still proclaiming his ownership of the same tree.
Given the fierce possessiveness of these birds, it is very clear why it would have earned the name of New Holland Honeyeater.
But given his age, now, he might be going a bit deaf, and a bit vague.
