If you
mean "I suppose this counts as a breeding record!" for the Magpie, then it is
"CF". Although it may have nothing to do with a breeding record for the Magpie.
This behaviour is marginal for Magpies, though of course very standard for their
relatives: Currawongs & Butcherbirds.
If you mean "I suppose this counts as a breeding
record!" for the Silvereye, then it doesn't amount to much. I would tend to
leave it out. It depends on whether you would think the chick was old enough to
have fledged. The only thing one could assume is it is evidence of NY, although
that associates the location record with the nest which you may not know, so may
not be right. Or if old enough, then it would be DY as the parents were clearly
still taking an interest in it.
Philip
A great commotion outside this morning, at least a dozen silvereyes
dive-bombing a magpie. Closer inspection revealed that the magpie had a baby
silvereye in its beak. Several other magpies were also hassling the first
magpie, and disputing ownership of the morsel. The whole event caught the
attention of the currawongs and the mudlarks who also seemed very interested in
grabbing the prize. The silvereyes desperately bombed the lot of them until the
magpie had the little fledgeling tightly enough to fly off, accompanied by the
currawongs and other magpies, all harassing it to grab the little bird. All flew
off the Percival Hill in a cloud of squeaks and screeches.
I suppose this counts as a breeding record!
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what code to use?
