Hi Steve
Some sort of katydid - possibly/probably a male Mountain Katydid (Acripeza
reticulata) or something closely related. The female is much stockier, but both
have bright red and blue colouration of the upper abdomen (concealed by the
wings). See for example

Cheers,
Harvey

Subject: any thoughts?
Not a bird but photographed last night on fly-wire screen.
Camera - only one available at time - compact Olympus - flash used.
Fascinating, unusual, unknown to me. Any suggestions?
Steve.
