Tuggeranong Hill was surveyed yesterday, on a warm, sunny
and still morning. It was an interesting morning, with several of the sub-sites
having surprise species. Sub-site 3
was the busiest site again, with 13 species observed there. Highlights during
surveys were Sacred Kingfisher, Common
Bronzewing, White-throated Gerygone, and Noisy Friarbird, whilst Olive-backed Oriole was seen
nearby. Cuckoos were represented by
Eastern Koel and Fan-tailed. Breeding species included a Red Wattlebird carrying food, Common Starling and Rainbow Lorikeet entering hollows and
Australian Magpie with dependant
young. In all, thirty-six species were observed
on the Hill. Twenty-four of these
were during the ten minute surveying
periods.
