About an hour before sunset yesterday I was wandering beneath a clump of eucalypts at the edge of Belconnen golf course near the intersection of Britten-Jones & Stockdill Drive when a largish bird burst into the canopy above. Looked up and saw a Brown Goshawk holding a limp male Superb Parrot against its perch.
The hawk appeared to be in a state of high alert as it crouched (rather than mantled) over its prey and continually darted its head from side to side. I watched for about a minute before leaving as surrounding trees filled with the clangour of Pied Currawongs and shrill piping of Magpies.
